  I've seen the same kind of message when trying to flash-upgrade a
BIOS.  The fix was to use a genuine DOS boot diskette, and NOT a Win 9x
command-line startup diskette.  That's one of the two reasons I still
have a dual-boot DOS 6.22 partition on my main system.  [The other is a
DOS game that needs about 620K free conventional memory....]
