Those drives have had a high failure rate.  On Compaq's web site they have some
firmware patches specifically for Bigfoot drives to test them and upgrade the
firmware.  The later (larger) Bigfoot drives I've heard are okay though
somewhat slower than most 3.5" drives.  The patches are on the tech support
section of their board and are listed under Deskpro 2000.  Haven't found
something similar on Quantum's site.
