This brings out another question I had. I have read somewhere
about the possibility that cholesterol deposits are not 'damage'
but rather a coping mechanism by the body. The idea is that
cholesterol is an antioxidant (not sure if that's true) and is
used to repair damage to the arterial walls. So it's not the
culprit, but a savior from whatever causes the damage. The correlation
is there, but it's not causative.

Anybody has thoughts on this?
