I was wondering if anyone had any information or experience with an optic
system or a closed circuit TV like system that is portable or wearable? I
have a stretched retina therefore my resolution or maximum vision is
reduced. Around home I have an old Apollo cctv system that has a 12 inch
monitor and a movable Honeywell camera. This camera is movable on all
directions plus it has a lens that allows you to read a book or look at a
chalk board or out in to the yard. It is great but not portable at all. I
heard at one time there was a machine or helmet called Elvis does anyone
have any information on that or I think I remember Telesensery having
sometype of handheld unit that you could take into a store and read labels.

My goal is to give myself as much vision a possible since optics are
limited in there function in my case. I am severely nearsided and
magnifiers just makes stuff blurrier. I was thinking of getting a small CCD
camera and get some lenses to allow upclose and distance use but most of
them require a interface with a display which I am limited in knowledge of.
My original idea was to get one of those portable televisions with the flat
panel display and if not remove the panel and mount it on a head band mount
the TV unit too in front of my good eye. Then I would mount the camera on
my right side by my ear on the head band and use one with a RF output and
display it though the TV receiver. I would like to just use the flat panel
display and a camera but I am limited in knowledge in doing that.

Final note has anyone had experience with using a WEB cam? One of those
inexpensive cameras you hook to your computer for use with a video
conference? I was wondering how well they would work making your computer
function as a CCTV like some scanners will?
