Believe it or not this is a summary of a question I posted in August! I
had interpreted gut symptoms I was experiencing as indigestion, and got
many useful replies.
Eight people suggested that I look into food intolerances other than gluten
(using a food diary, elimination diet, or RAST test). To be honest I am
having a hard time identifying what else could be a problem. Somtimes I
feel like I am intolerant of all food! But I have noticed symptoms of
bloating and gas do accompany some milk products, so I'm cutting these back
and taking lactaid when milk is hard to avoid.
Four people claimed they had been helped by using digestive enzymes. I
have tried these, alas to no avail.
Similarly, two mentioned low stomach acid and recommended betaine HCl.
Going the other way, one person said they had tried acid inhibitors
(prilosec) to little avail. One person found improvement with
glutamine/yogurt pill supplements.

I had held off summaryizing results with the hope that after some impending
tests and therapy trials I would have some positive outcome or solution to
share. I had a barium follow-through, ultra-sound, and colonoscopy. The
previous gastroscopy was negative for celiac (maybe; two-day challange) and
negative for ulcers or H. pylori. I have been on propulsid (to regulate
digestion rate), and Ranitidine and 'Losec' (acid inhibitors) with no
improvement. I take a marshmallow and calamus root infusion, glutamine and
acidophyllus/bifudus supplements. I can't say any of these have really
helped, although my symptoms are now different.

I now experience a hunger/empty stomach feeling/slight burn (with excessive
salivation) about 40 minutes after every meal. This often makes me feel
nauseous and tired, although candy will give me a temporary pickup. I no
longer have diarrhea and little gas if I'm careful with the diet. I just
had my blood type tested (results next week) since I bought Dr. D' Adamo's
book on "Eat right for your type". It seems like questionable anecdotal
evidence, but I'm ready to try anything at this point. If I get good
results I will post. Meanwhile, if anybody has any thoughts on causes or
solutions to what looks like blood sugar drops, please drop me a line.

Thanks so much.
