My mother-in-law has known about her CD and been GF for 12 years. With
no change in her diet she recently has had frequent diahrea. It isn't
like when she ingest gluten as there is no accompanying cramps, pain,
lightheadedness, etc. Her family doctor has told her she is probably
lactose intolerant and to give up dairy.
My questions:
She's 77 years old. How likely is it that lactose intolerance would
present now?
Do reactions to gluten change over time? Maybe there's hidden gluten
somewhere (but since there's no diet change, it would have had to be
there all along).
Is this some other problem?
I've encouraged her to seek a referral to a gastroenterologist, but that
will take months to get in.
Thanks in advance.
