Hi all,
I must say that I enjoyed Tracey's discussion of her case of peanut envy. I
hasten to add that not all allergies/intolerances are equal.

I think it is important to recognize that those of us who are trying to
comply with the g-f diet usually just get sick for a while after we've
ingested gluten. Peanut allergies, on the other hand, can be lethal.

For celiacs who cheat regularly, and those who are undiagnosed/untreated,
there are definitely some life and death implications, but the drama of an
anaphalactic reaction followed by sudden death is much more powerful than
our reactions (unless there is no available washroom). For us, early
diagnosis and gluten avoidance is very important. For those with peanut
allergies, avoidance can be a life-and-death issue every time.

I suppose that we could improve our leverage on the general population if
some of us would just drop dead from accidental ingestions. (No, I don't
want to compile a list of suggested names and report back to the list.)
However, I suspect that most of us would prefer to make lesser sacrifices
to educate the general public. To that end, perhaps we could pursue a
better understanding of the peanut peoples' persuasion techniques. Instead
of peanut envy, we could have peanut emulation. (Not to be confused with
Lorena Bobbitt's approach to personal problems)

I beg your forgiveness in advance, but I just had to send this post.

best wishes,
Ron Hoggan
