I don't know if anyone has caught Comedy Centrals "Bob & Margaret" ...
but last week they got stuck with the brother's kids ... and they
marched into the house and said, after a long list of demands
"and we are allergic to wheat!" ...

That pronouncement changed the tone of the show ... the kids
looking horror as they mix pre-fab dinners ... "there now, a little
won't hurt you" ... and the kid reading a diary entry "dear mum,
they keep making food that makes us ill" .... just a hoot ..

>On a more critical note, do you suppose the reason the us medical
>establishment shows little interest in CD research is because there is no
>money to be made treating celiac disease?

Of course. All the countries with high CD diagnosis rate all have
soclialized medicine ... I'm sure that's more than coinky-dink.

In the epilepsy world ... about 75 years ago this lil med school
call Johns Hopkins "invented" a diet that "cured" children of
their seizures. Curiously, it is wheat-free. [I believe it is
virtually carbohydrate-free, being mainly a 3:1 fat:protein diet.]

The Keto Diet continues to get slammed as "witchcraft" partially
because there is no one reason why the children respond so well.
The detractors like to say "only 1/3rd are cured!" -- as though 33% is a
statistical anomaly, something to sniff at -- and yet they always
fail to mention that 33% of the children are cured entirely and
an additional 33% of the children are mostly seizure-free, yet
still on meds ... and, yes, the remaining 33% do not benefit
from the diet ...

But in terms of profiteering -- who would benefit fiscally if there
were greater awareness of CD? Health food stores, Pamela's,
Reese's, GF Pantry, Memory Lane ... bunch a wacky, individual
food makers, NOT doctors ... NOT pharmaceutical sales reps ...
NOT HMO administrators that get bonuses when costs are cut ...
NOT lobbyists. "Just" the folks that make our yummy ya-yas.
And, unfortunately, yummy ya-ya makers are a bit smaller
in number than all the other money-hounds.
