Different modems differ in their implementation of the AT command
set.

You may encounter 4 variations of the L command:

1. Not implemented.

2. L0 = off, L1 = on.

3. L0 = off, L1/L2/L3 are three different volume settings.

4. Any of the above, except that for some reason L0 is still audible
by ordinary humans.

The volume slider in the modem properties is almost certainly
implemented using the L command, and may offer a different range
according to the command support expected by the modem driver. It
should never be necessary to add an L command to the advanced
settings, since this can only be redundant or conflict with the
volume slider UNLESS you are using one of the "standard modem"
drivers.

You may encounter three variations of the M command:

1. Not implemented.

2. M0 = off, M1 = on.

3. M0 = off, M1/M2/M3 enable the speaker for different *parts* of
the calling process.

If, for some reason, the L0 command is not turning off the speaker
(I would expect this to have worked with the correct driver and the
volume slider...), then the M0 command is likely to silence it.
