Transferring the system files from the floppy to your active C partition
isn't necessary. You should be able to boot off the Win 98 CD or 98 install
floppy...... and if your PC won't boot from the CD or the install floppy
won't recognize your CD ROM then transferring your system files won't help
you to access your CD ROM drive and install 98.If your CD ROM driver is not
supported by 98 install then it will be necessary to load your CD ROM
drivers from your boot disk.

To do this first copy Mscdex.exe from your C:\windows\command directory
to your boot disk. Then go to your CD ROM manufacturers web page and get
the specific Dos driver for your drive. Copy it to your boot disk. This
driver will usually come with the new drive on a floppy.. You will need to
create a CONFIG.SYS file...just do it in Notepad like a text file and save
it as CONFIG.SYS to your A drive boot floppy......and then put a line in it
similar to this...

NOTE this line is for a Teac CD Rom reader and is for example

A:\TEAC_CDI.SYS /D:TEAC-CDI

do the same thing to create a AUTOEXEC.BAT file and add line like this

a:\MSCDEX.EXE /D:TEAC-CDI /M:15

The read me file that comes with your driver should tell you exactly what
to write for your particular CD ROM drive. Most are very similar....only
the referenced driver changes ...... but there are exceptions.
Once you have the driver set up boot from the floppy.......the driver
should find your CD ROM and load. When the boot has finished you should be
able to access your CD just like you would any other drive.

To install 98 just go to the CD ROM drive and run setup.
