aloha, john!

As I indicated in the last general meeting announcement, my account at
NJIN was unexpectedly deleted (without prior notification) approximately 2
weeks ago. In fact, the first indication I had that the site had
disappeared was an inquiry from Crista Earl, asking me if the URL had
changed. (Thanks, Crista!) I contacted NJIN, and, after an initial
delay, was finally able to get a system administrator to restore the
contents of my public_html directories from taped backup, zip them up, and
send them to me. Thus, I was able to re-create the site as a sub-site of
my personal web site, Camera Obscura, on Monday night -- a temporary
measure until I can locate a service provider willing to host VICUG NYC's
web site either for free or at a reduced rate. To this end, I have been
discussing the matter with local providers, with an eye (if you'll pardon
the pun) toward registering the domain name vicug.org once I have obtained
an IP address to associate with it (a pre-requisite for registering a
domain with InterNic.)

In any event, the VICUG NYC site can now be found at the following URL:

        http://www.hicom.net/~oedipus/vicug/

and those of you who listen to the footer of messages posted to
<[log in to unmask]> will note that I have updated the URLs contained
therein.

A sister site, once hosted at NJIN, "Read 'Em & Speak", a site devoted to
books and reading from a blind/VI perspective, will also be re-created as
a sub-site at hicom.net, as soon as time allows--hopefully sometime over
this week-end or early next week. The URL for "Read 'Em & Speak" will be:

        http://www.hicom.net/~oedipus/books/

I apologize for any inconvenience that this unexpected and abrupt change
of location has caused, and again ask all of you to please update your
bookmark files and any links you may have on your own web sites that point
to VICUG NYC's web site.

Gregory.
