Boards with both DIMM and SIMM slots may work with
mixed memory types...for a while.
However, SIMMs take 5 volts and DIMMs take 3.3 volts.
The memory is connected electrically via the memory bus
and, over time, the DIMMs will be damaged. It might take
months (or it might happen in days), but it will happen.
There are special 5 Volt tolerant DIMMs that would not
be damaged, but that might not be economical.
