I appologize if this may be more appropriate for the PCSoft list.

A customer asked me about recording an audio CD directly from his stereo
using his computer.  I am assuming [we have been communicating via e-mail as
he is working night shift.] he would like to make a direct connection to the
stereo output, not a sound recording.  I quite frankly never thought about
it.  Can anyone tell me what might be required for both Hardware and
Software.  If there is some necessary hardware, can you recommend a
brand/model.  For software, again, a software title and version would be
appreciated.
