Just to add to David's comment:   Another option if you have a free ISA
slot on the motherboard is to add an ISA LPT / printer port card to the system
that will become LPT2.  You can then add the scanner on this second
printer/LPT port.   These cards are usually less than $15 and sold nearly
everywhere.
