I'm new to the list too. It took me about 6 months to figure out I
was lactose intolerant after I returned from a 7 day trip to Tijuana,
Mexico last year. I remember having a milkshake right after I crossed
the border and I was sick for 1-2 weeks after I returned; I thought it
was traveller's illness and it would go away. I would get diarrhea
every few days which is approximately the frequency I eat dairy
products. I figured it out after monitoring my diet over a period of
weeks. Now I take lactaid with my dairy products though I still can't
eat too much of it. I seem to react more to some dairy products (ice
cream, alfredo sauce) than others (cheese on pizza).
