Position Description:

Provides technical preservation assistance to support GSA historic building
repair and alteration projects nationwide. Requires technical knowledge of
building materials conservation and preservation design.   Day to day work
includes on call assistance to GSA regional historic preservation officers,
architects, construction supervisors, and project staff involved in historic
building projects.  Buildings include 19th to mid 20th century courthouses,
customs houses, post offices, border stations, and office buildings.  Common
design problems include systems retrofitting and alterations required to
accommodate building, ADA, and life safety codes; security requirements;
federal energy conservation standards, and tenant needs.

Projects include research and writing on technical preservation issues,
developing a technical library, manipulating images for use in technical
briefs and presentations, and developing a subject-indexed database of
preservation design details and project documentation for use in design
research.   Independent problem solving ability, resourcefulness, and
communicating skill are essential.  Strong computer skills are also important.
Knowledge of computer programs for desktop publishing, and digital image
manipulation, and Web page design are helpful.

Contract Position 12-18 months, renewable. GS11-12 range ($38-50K).
