It sounds like the scanner is requesting something from the system during
the boot process that it is unable to handle.   Possibly, (I have only installed
one Mustek scanner), it is requesting an IRQ and needs the LPT port set
to ECP in the BIOS to function properly.  Try changing your CMOS setting
in the BIOS for LPT1 to ECP.  Then reboot the system to allow Win95 to
assign an IRQ to the port.

A second thought is that the scanner's cable is bad and causing an issue...
or the scanner is defective.  Remember that although the components are
new, that does not insure they are not defective...    I see about 5%
of all new components, right out of the box, are defective for one reason
or another.
