Hi Jean,
        Wouldn't it be easier to wade through the back pages of Computer
Shopper, or call around locally, and get a monitor that would work with
the laptop?  You might even be able to borrow or get one free from one
of the businesses in your area that long put such monitors in the
storeroom.  A cheap or free monitor would also let him continue to use
the laptop in the meantime.
        Perhaps someone on the List is familiar with the laptop, but I would
wonder if the hard disk connects direct to the motherboard, in which
case you would then have the pain of trying to find a controller card
were you to put the drive in another computer.  I would also worry about
whether, once taken apart, the laptop could be put back together in the
event that became necessary.
