You may remember me.  I'm the one that wrote frantically regarding my mother's
severe anemia, and that she had a biopsy done of her small intestines and it
came back as positive for celiac disease.

Well, she went to her hematologist today, and she is doing really good with
the B12 injections.  Her hemoglobin is higher than it was when they released
her from the hospital, so that was good news.  Then she got a call from her
gastroenterologist this afternoon stating that her blood tests came back
negative for celiac disease.

Have any of you had this same experience?  The doctor stated that he wants her
on the GF diet for at least six months to see if her stomach heals any.  If
any of you have any information regarding why these blood tests sometimes come
back negative, I would appreciate it.  My mom said that the doc is really
puzzled by this and mentioned that it could be "tropical sprue" which I
thought was only something that you picked up from other countries.  Do any of
you know any other condition in the stomach that would cause malabsorbtion
problems?  The GE doctor already stated that the biopsy indicated that her
villi were damaged when he had diagnosed her with celiac disease, and now he's
not sure.  Help!!

I just started relaxing about all of this and now this.  Thanks in advance for
any information you can give me.
