What are the BIOS settings for the drives?  (especially the first)  Did
you try auto config?  (if it exists)  Did you have the settings recorded
anywhere?
What CMOS diagnostics are you referring to?  Are you sure you wern't in
FDISK?

What is your level of experience with PCs?   What brand of MOBO/PC do
you have?   Please describe step-by-step.  Everything you typed
everything you saw.  Bore us.  Start with, I pushed the little button...
