Hello People-
Drew Diaz invited me into this discussion about the window restoration
project. I have been in the window film (UV film) business for 15 years and
believe I may be of assistance.
As far as the UV film damaging the glass, I seriously doubt it. Never have I
encountered any window film "damaging" the glass. If the film looks terrible,
it can be removed without any effect to the glass at all.
My first question is how old is the UV film? Quality film of this type should
last 12-20 years without deteriorating, peeling or bubbling. 3M has a film of
this type that is warranted for life on residential applications and 10 years
on commercial applications.
>From what I can figure, the easiest and most cost effective way of addressing
this issue is to remove the existing UV film and have new UV film applied to
the storm windows (whether it is installed to the inside or outside).
