: I would like to hear from any other mothers who had an infant with milk
: allergy. The doctors say many babies outgrow this by 1year. I am wondering if
: you were able to continue breastfeeding or if you switched to formula. If so
: how did this work out for the baby?

I'll add my two cents... to continue breastfeeding as long as you can! Alyssa did
not react directly to my diet at all (maybe some excema in hindsight) but chose
to wean herself at 6 months, just as the allergies were starting to show up :(
She did tolerate soy formula OK, so that's what we did until she switched to Rice Dream.

I've also heard that many babies outgrow milk allergy by age 1, "most" by age 3 or 4.
So far, Alyssa has not, although her reactions are much less severe than when she was
a baby (to milk at least). She added walnut allergy just last December, at age 4, though.
Strict avoidance is possible, and worthwhile! Stick around this list for lots of good
advice and experience. A friend's son had a verified (skin test) milk allergy, and
did outgrow it by the time they challenged him at about 15 months, so it does happen.

Laurie (and Alyssa, 4yo, allergic to dairy, eggs, peanuts and walnuts)
