Looks like I am not alone - 42 of you replied and the vast majority of
you did not believe this mucous in the throat and coughing, etc. was
related to the celiac disease.
A couple of listservers found relieve after going GF, but not the number
I was hoping for! I just got my bloodwork back, and my iron, folic
acid, thyroid, B12, etc. are all normal - all were very deficient before
going GF in April, so I think the diet is doing its job.

10 felt this was related to dairy products. I don't eat them, but this
could be a good starting point for some.

Many believed their problems were related to allergies - mold, pollens,
chocolate, dust, life. This could be aggravated by weather and
temperature. Various antihistamines were recommended - claritan,
allegra, comptrex. Also nasal sprays - flonase, vacanaze.

3 believed that gastritis and GERD caused their problems. Coffee and
tea aggravate this, as does most everything! Prevacid didn't seem to
help, sleeping with a wedge under the head and small meals did.

1 suggested thyroid as a possibility.

Other prescition drugs mentioned were humabid or fenesin ( mucous
thinners), primatene mist ( I'm not sure what that is), and various
inhalers as a lot of responders seem to have asthma (albuterol,
proventil). By the way, the methacholine test is a non-invasive test
where you breath in gases that induce the asthma if you have it. There
can be false positives, but the negatives are usually pretty reliable.
I've been "asthmatic" since 1984, taken every inhaler imaginable with no
results, and am only now getting treated seriously since testing
negative.

More natural helpers were Quercetin - a bioflavaniod, echinicea, gargle
with warm salt water - and a capful of hydrogen peroxide in one case,
lots of garlic and onion, steam, snurffling salt water into the sinuses
and drinking coke!

Back to me - I was tested for CF - negative, will be tested for TB, am
taking claritan for allergies, flonaze nasal spray, prevacid fo GERD,
and no, I am not doing better! A little poorer... Have an appointment
at the end of the month with a lung guru, so maybe... will let you know.

Thank you all so much for your help - will continue to try out some of
the ideas you sent me. Will send any applicable replies if requested.
