A search on DejaNews newsgroup archives came up with the following post
on Cytolog. I can't attest to the validity of the information, but here
it is for your perusal.

Steve: if everyone knows all this information on the linking of the
immune system and sleep and FM I suppose they are familar with Cytolog
also. It is currently being used by some to treat FM and other immune
dysfunctions. It's an infopeptide and said to be vital to a properly
regulated immune system, and its actions are supposedly more hormone like
than nutritional, but more self-regulating than the synthetic hormones.
That is, they can control underactivity and overactivity of the immune
system (Archives of Immunology and Therapeutic Experiments, vol 41, 1993)
The results on RA and OA pts were exceptional according to certain
reports. (not yet pulished) If elevated cytokine activity in the brain is
causing a sleep disorder through neurohormonal pathways, then the
experience of Jeff Anderson, MD should be of interest. According to the
report I have he: "had viral myalgic meningoencephalits (a brain
inflammation). He used two 5ml doses of Cytolog per day for a week..he had
rapid relief of inflammatory- connective -tissue pain, especially myalgic
pain and stiffness" And: "Dr. Arnold Takemoto of Scottsdale Arizona
thought the reports of Cytolog, too good to be true. He then began testing
clinically with 500 pts on chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia..he reports,
incredible results." Then I have the doctors quoted on using it for
shingles, polymyalgia rheumatica, etc. According to the report I have:
"research has linked these polypeptides to widespread biological actions
that alleviate inflammation, nervous disorders and even sleep patterns.
(Trends in Neuroscience, vol 18, 1995). Seems to me that it would behoove
one of the self proclaimed FM experts of the medical world to have brought
this information to us. And now that its here, to discuss it. Of course,
I'm still waiting for the FM experts to discuss the double blinded peer
reviewed studies on SAMe that found it superior to both placebo and TENS
units for pain, stiffness, depression, etc. "During treatment with SAMe,
subjects demonstrated significant reduction in number of trigger points
and painful areas and improvement in mood." Three such studies exist.
Well, doctors, the balls in your court. Tell us what you've uncovered in
your research on Cytolog, SAMe and the influence of the immune system and
elevated cytokines and the hormones possibly responsible for the sleep
disorders. And where do tricyclic anti-depressants fit in this picture?
