Rather than dismissing the Surwit study on fat and diabetes with
conjectures about who sponsored it, I decided to take the more
rational course of writing to Professor Surwit and requesting a
copy of the paper.  He replied that he is expecting delivery of
reprints soon and will send me one as soon as they arrive.  When
I get it I'll be happy to share what I learn with this list.

I note that Surwit is the scientist responsible for recent
discoveries in the genetic determinants of obesity.  I note that
he is a member of the medical psyhology faculty at Duke, and most
of his published research has been in the area of obesity,
nutrition, and eating disorders.
