Hi all,
Interesting thread - is there one way of eating that's right for everyone?
I don't know, I suspect not. My guess is that more people *do* have a
problem with a high carb diet than not. I know I felt lousy on a vegetarian
diet - tired all the time, and I gained weight on it. Well why not? If
you're not eating meat, and "fat makes you fat", what's left? Carbs. Well,
if you're hyperinsulinemic like me, you get fat and unhealthy on a
vegetarian diet.
In a similar vein, has anybody noticed how unhealthy a lot of celebrities
look? Many of them claim to be vegetarians too - they all belong to Peta
and apparently don't eat meat for ethical reasons. I am absolutely
convinced that both Rosy O'Donnell and Oprah are both big-time carb addicts
(though I don't think either of them is vegetarian). Also interesting, I
saw an interview with that woman on the X-Files (can't think of her name)
and she stated she eats a lot of meat and vegetables. Sugar (can't remember
about grains) makes her crazy. Have to say she looks a lot healthier than a
lot of these waif-like celebrity women who look wasted to me.
Another observation - a big local event in this area is the Boilermaker
Road Race. A lot of the "professional" runners and serious amateurs look
wasted too. OTOH, a lot of the local runners seemed so unfit that it was
scary. Should people with beer bellies really be running in road races?
Just some random thoughts and observations...
