In a message dated 98-11-24 17:15:32 EST, you write:
<< Tofu is made of soy beans that are poisonous raw. It is also
a quite processed food. It belongs to those things I do not eat, and
I doubt it should be recommended for a paleodieter. >>
I am new to these boards, and the paleo concept.. still not sure
what it
is
in its entirety..is there something i can read or some site i can
visit that
provides an overview?
On tofu...can anyone tell me what the toxin is, or how the beans are
processed to make tofu? How far back this goes? I have seen one
variety of
soybean available to gardeners which claim the beans are edible.
I understand some South American "indigenous" people process an
otherwise
poisonous root (manioc?) by heating, torsion, and rinsing..and have
been
doing
that since, last i recall having read, shortly after the last ice
age...
would
this not be "paleo" either?
When i get deer, or as last year, caribou, i have the rump cured in
a
brine
solution and smoked. Does anyone know how far this tradition dates
back, and
whether this is also considered sutiable to this diet?
