One thing that always peaked my interest was if it wasn't the calorie
restriction, but rather carb restriction that lead to increased life
span. You see, all these CR diets had been constructed to be nutritionally
complete. Which means adequate amounts of protein and essential fats.
Since the total calories are lower, that means lower sugars and
starches. The major hole in this idea is that these diets have worked
equally well in species that have evolved to eat primarily carbs.
