An update on the GF status of the cheesecakes sold at Ruthy's
Bakery here in Manhattan:
When I went there a few weeks ago, I was told that three
varieties - ricotta, cappuccino, white chocolate- were GF: no flour in
the recipe, and the baker's spray used to coat the pan contained
cornstarch, not wheat flour.
Today, however, when I went there driven by a mid-afternoon
craving, much to my surprise I discovered that the ricotta cheesecake
bore a neat little sign that said, "Has wheat flour." I checked with
the manager, and re-checked with the head baker, and yes, the ricotta
cheesecake does contain wheat flour. However, both the cappuccino and
white chocolate continue to be GF and are safe for celiacs. So I
satisfied my craving after all with some rich and luscious white
chocolate cheesecake.

                            Regards to all,
