If anyone is visiting Ottawa, Canada, I can recommend a very GF-friendly
Sri Lankan restaurant: the Ceylonta. I've been going there for over a
year, and everything has been delicious. They now have a website, with
a menu and directions: http://www.ceylonta.com
Once I explained my situation, the very helpful server went through the
whole list with me and let me know what was safe. Some things which
look GF are off-limits due to "tiny amounts of wheat", but most items
are safe, including all the buryani, thali, roasts, and curried dishes,
and of course rice and pappadam...and mango lassi....I'll have to stop,
this is making me hungry :)
A few people have mentioned Sri Lankan food on the list. It's similar to
Indian food, but the spices are roasted separately, then ground before
being added to the food. This sets my mind at rest about the question of
flour in the spices. (Note: I'm not guaranteeing that every Sri Lankan
restaurant is as authentic as the Ceylonta. I've had some pretty awful
stuff passing for Sri Lankan food in Toronto.)
I have no connection with the restaurant, except that I would eat there
every day if I could. :)
