I am a new Celiac, 28 years old, and gluten free since March. Feeling
100% better, and becoming much more aware of my body's dietary needs, as
well as getting peace-of-mind from a healthier body. This list has
given me more info than any doctor or nutritionist has even attempted. I
am taking my first vacation since becoming a celiac and am a bit nervous
about it. (Life in NYC is quite easy actually--gourmet restaurants and
stores, though expensive.) I will be heading to Athens and the Greek
Islands for two weeks and would like to bring along a translation card.
My question for the List is What do we normally have to say on the
card? Right now I usually say in restaurants that I am allergic to
wheat, flour, oats, etc, and I usually only ask about the sauces on
grilled things. I have done a lot of reading about Greece, and it seems
that their specialties are mostly grilled. However, the occasional sauce
concerns me. Does anyone know if Ouzo is gf? I would definitely
appreciate anyone's thoughts on this. And if you can translate a phrase
or two for me--super! Thanks. Deb in NYC.
