Yes, I had a parallel-port Zip drive, a WinFax scanner (B/W, sheet-fed
scanner) and an old HP LaserJet IIP all on one port with no problems,
first under Win 3.11 (WFWG) and later under Win95 (OSR2). Biggest
problems are usually with the printer drivers themselves, if they try to
be bi-directional and constantly get status information back from the
printer and/or try to take over the parallel port to do so, it will cause
problems. Parallel port external tape drives are not likely to work with
much else except perhaps a simple printer (again without drivers that
want to be bi-directional).

Usually there's no way to tell ahead of time, you just have to try the
devices and cross your fingers. If you're working with a supplier with a
reasonably liberal return policy, this may be an option. Otherwise,
throw out the specifics of exactly what you are intending to try and see
if it's been successful for anyone else on the list.
