This only describes what the index is, but is now very long,
but still has the most complete list of references to the medical
literature. (Unfortunately, Mendosa now also pushes the misnamed "lo-carb
diet" for diabetics for which there is no support in the refereed medical
literature. It's unproven alternative medicine for diabetics when it comes
to kidneys and liver.)

The glycemic index can be used with any diet containing carbohydrate.

The two lists, one arranged by food groups, the other by glycemic index
are now at

http://www.mendosa.com/gilists.htm
