Regarding Yarn, it can work with a PPP accout by using a utility called
SOUPER that converts a PPP download to a SOUP packet and vice versa for
your replies. I was impressed with much of Yarn, but found its
addressbook to be unacceptable. One cannot search the address book for
a string of text and cannot put a comment by someone's name (e.g., to
remind you of who that person is).
In my opinion, Net-Tamer is efficient for reading messages, but
inefficient for writing them. Unfortunately, I have not found the
author to be responsive to bug reports and feature suggestions, though
he certainly has made the program speech friendly.
