Have I misunderstood the US electoral system? I thought a political
party's presidential candidate was chosen by anyone who wanted to
register as a supporter of that party, rather than by actual party
members. As I understand it, that means that supporters of one party
could even register as supporters of another party, to help install
an incompetent as the opposition candidate.
