Yeah, in that sense they are right on, I'm afraid. There is talk of Hawaii
Natural Beef shipping 10 head a week to the mainland (for a jerky outfit if
I remember correctly) and they are trying to increase their business. I
don't know what it will take before it will be available/distributed.
Perhaps some enterprising butcher will start "importing" a few carcasses
and selling the it as s/he can.
The wholesale prices of this meat are reasonable enough that even with
shipping to the mainland is could be economical, but quite a bit would have
to be shipped at once to make it worth it...so either you have a butcher
with cooler space in your pocket (this stuff will last a couple months in a
cooler, even cryovaced (sp?) in plastic) or you have a big freezer or you
have a couple families together. I don't know, but if you're serious call

There is also, reportedly, some grass-only beef available from southern CA
but I don't have the details.

BTW, I ate NZ meat with glee. Antibiotics as needed in grass-fed animals is
a far cry from what finds its way into dry-feed in the USA. The Costco here
has Aussie lamb which I would consider excellent quality. Maybe in your
area too?
Mary's idea about getting extra game meat from hunters in your area might
be much more economical though!
