I have to say that in my own case my body doesn't seem to detect
contaminants in any way that I can discern by introspection.
Mind you, I think it is best to avoid these things, and I make
every attempt to do so. But if and when I slip up and eat some
MSG or other rubbish, I don't experience anything unusual.

In fact, the only thing that I clearly do have reduced tolerance
for is wheat, in substantial amounts. A crouton in my salad
doesn't bother me, but a hunk of bread really does cause me some
distress now. When I have experimented with dairy and legumes I
have not had any difficulties. But I still keep these foods out
of my diet, except for the soy that I now consume to control
cholesterol.
