Eliminating the need to swap out virtual memory can, at least
theoretically, speed up the system -- although with a PII-400, this
is unlikely to be an issue.

A friend of mine, though, is working on a digital image project
where the result is supposed to be about 6'x2' in size, and while so
far she has been able to work on small detail ares, at some point
she'll have to assemble them and work with the whole -- and that
takes RAM.

Most of our servers are deployed with 256 MB of RAM. Load them up
with a dozen instances of the voice-recognition software, and that
doesn't leave much headroom....

It doesn't sound like your friend needs this much memory, but
unless you're hoping to persuade him to give it to you, I wouldn't
worry about it. It can't hurt anything.
