Hi there! I found something interesting concerning tea that might grab some of you paleodieters' attention.LONDON (March 22) XINHUA - American scientists have discovered that
drinking half a cup of tea a day can double a woman's chances of getting
pregnant, The Sunday Times reported.
It is the latest piece of research suggesting the health benefits of
tea, the British newspaper said.
A 12-month study of 200 women who were trying to get pregnant found that
those who drank coffee or soft drinks were no more or less likely to be
pregnant but tea drinkers had twice the chance.
Throughout the study each woman completed questionnaires about their
intake of coffee, tea and soft drinks as well as other factors that may
influence the ability to conceive, such as smoking, exercise and alcohol
consumption.
Researchers from the Kaiser Permanent Medical Program in California said
they cannot fully explain the findings, but they believed that tea may
contain vital ingredients that help the fertilized egg through the
crucial first weeks of life.
Studies showed that polyphenolic compounds found in tea have the ability
to inhibit chromosomal aberrations which could increase fertility by
decreasing the number of nonviable embryos.
Tea also contains a substance called hypoxanthine, which is an important
component of fluid in a woman's ovaries that helps eggs mature during
the menstrual cycle, researchers said. >>
