Recently purchased an Acer CRW-6206A CD-RW drive, and plan
to add to my existing system.
System Config:
AMDK6-233 on FIC2007 MB
64MB RAM
WIN98
WD 8.4GB UDMA HD on IDE 1
Acer 32x UDMA CD-ROM on IDE2 Master
NEC MultiSpin 4x6x CD-ROM LBA Mode 3 on IDE2 Slave
I plan on moving the NEC to IDE1 as a slave and to have both the
Acer CD-ROM & CD-RW on IDE 2 with the CD as Master and CD-
RW as Slave which is what mfg. suggests.
My question is:
Should I remove the NEC from the hardware settings of WIN98
FIRST, then change from IDE2 to IDE1?
OR
Should I just switch the drive from IDE2 to IDE1 and Win98 won't
have problem with the change from IDE2 to 1 (yeah, right)?
Does WIN98 keep that much info? The drive is still present I am
just changing from one IDE channel to the other. I don't see it
keeping track of the IDE channel in Device Manager, but I am sure
the all knowing Registry is.
Comments on best or smoothest upgrade path.
Thanks.
