Hi Dave:
I got the USR V90 External Faxmodem #5686 after a great deal of research
and it was quite a disappointment as the best connection I can get
with it is 28,800. The 33.6 modem that came with my machine was going at
26,400!
To discuss the A/D and phone lines and my ISP would be a waste of time
as all were checked by experts and nothing actually stands in the way
of a connection near what USR advertises.
A greater was the technical support by USR. I made
a long distance call to them at my expense (Over an hour) and was
handed back and forth to no less than 5 people that could tell me
nothing except I had a bad modem and to take it back and get another!
Just more baloney for that huge sandwich of bad technical support
by so many people selling us this stuff.
BTW, I went out and DID buy another USR #5686 and it was exactly
the same as the first with the best it would do being 28,800.
For me, I'm waiting for CABLE MODEM that will soon be in my area
and begone with all this wishful thinking about a good connection
speeds with telephone modems.
Michael
