Most older drives (2X, for example...) can't reliably read CD-RW.
CD-RW are rewritable, which is good, but expensive, which is bad.
It's hard to find a CD-R drive any more that doesn't also do CD-RW.
We have several; our preferred choice is the Yamaha 4260 external.
Unfortunately, it's about twice the price of many internal IDE
writers, and even more if you don't already use SCSI.
