Listmates, Not only does it not list milk, but Newmans Sock arooni, and
also the Venetian variety of sauce are Kosher Parve, as certified by the
Kosher Overseers organization. I have spoken with a couple of their
certifying Rabbis about this, and feel confident this product is safe,
but if you have questions, I recommend contacting Newman's Brands. They
are a great company, and donate all proceeds to charities. The heckscher
is difficult to locate; it is on the back of the bottle, right next to
the recycle glass logo. It is a funny-looking K--with a rounded back.
That is the certifying logo of the organization called Kosher
Overseers. They are particularly kind and wonderful and helpful and
they have an intriguing homepage, if you are so inclined to visit. I
don't have the web address at the moment, but will email it to you if
you email me.

I just want to note that, contrary to what others have said, Parve foods
are dairy free. That is actually the purpose of the parve status--to
indicate that no milk or meat products are present. I have, however
seen plenty of MSG and other "undesirables" in kosher foods. (In other
words, kosher does not mean healthy, necessarily) The Rabbis at the
Orthodox Union and the Kosher Overseers and a couple of other kosher
certifiers I have written to are surprisingly savvy and sophisticated
about additives and derivatives. Parve foods must be prepared in
separate facilities than dairy or meat kosher foods, or the cleaning
process that they use would have to be far more thorough than anything I
would ever do at home. There are errors, they point out, but we know
from other non-kosher-related incidents that this can be true with any
prepared foods and their labels. Our experience has been that shopping
parve foods for our milk-allergic son (severely!) has worked, AND has
helped us through some really tough spots when travelling, or when Mom
(me) recently left the goody bags in the garage(arrgghh!). Good luck to
all! Dale Robin Lockman, Ima (Mom) to Seth and Aaron
