Minutes of the VICUG-NYC Executive Committee Meeting
                             February 4, 1998

Present: Tom Dekker, Peter Altschul, Jay Leventhal, Janina Sajka,
     and Gregory J. Rosmaita.

Topics discussed included:

    1. Topics for future meetings
         A. February: Paul Schroeder, director of AFB's National
Technology Access Program (NTAP) will discuss issues related
to technology, accessibility, and the NTAP's current programs
and initiatives, as well as field questions and suggestions
            from the membership
         B. March: Christa Earl will discuss the merits and shortcomings
of the various screenreader programs with respect to Windows
            95
         C. April: focus on low-vision technology, with, perhaps, a
demonstration by a representative from TeleSensory (TSI), who
will discuss TSI's large-print/magnification products; launch
of the Low Vision SIG (LV-SIG)

    2. Publicity
         A. Peter reported that he had publicized the newsline at
ACBGNY's most recent meeting, and had drafted an announcement
to be printed in the next newsletter of Guiding Eyes for the
Blind. He, with Tom's assistance, will make the requisite
            announcement on VICUG's newsline (212) 539-3514.
         B. Other persons to contact include: the libraries for the
blind in New York and New Jersey; the NFB of New York and New
Jersey; the Lighthouse; TAB's newsletter; and Iris Torres.
[1]Please use this link to submit suggestions as to how VICUG
            can spread the word.

    3. Dues
         A. Because of anticipated expenses (such as: honoraria, the
newsletter, distribution and demonstration media, etc.), the
Executive Committee agreed to charge membership dues of $12.
This will be discussed during the February 10 meeting.

    4. Tom's travels (a.k.a. The Orderly Passage of Power)
         A. Because Tom will be traveling extensively during the next six
months, in accordance with Article III, Section 2 of
VICUG's bylaws, Janina and Peter (in that order) will assume
            leadership during Tom's absences.
