Hi all. I've been doing some planning and brain storming the last weeks. This is how it goes.

I think I've mentioned here, or to some of you, that I have been putting together a loan library of alternative formats of leisure reading for young adults and older. As of recently, I haven't put together any beginner reading though I do have plans for that also. H'm, lets see if I can explain this. My brain isn't functioning yet this morning.

I have been getting such a huge interest in a loan library, and I'm glad to say that it's all starting to come together nicely. Though the monetary funds are, as ever, in question, I've decided that it will take care of itself, in it's own time.
I already have a number of books that I've done myself and that people are donating. These books range from the author Stephen King to Laura Ingalls Wilder. That would be young adult and adult reading. As long as I'm getting such a huge interest in a loan library, I've decided that I would start putting this together. At the time, I believe I'm going to charge a minimum fee to belong to the club where a person can loan a book, or volume at a time, and then check them out similar to a library. Any ideas on the plan? If there is a specific book that someone would like transcribed, they could send me the book and I will turn it into whatever format they wish. I will then add that book to the library so that others can read it and it will go into the loan program. If anyone has ink print books of any kind that they would like to donate it would be much appreciated. Books will be all done in textbook format unless otherwise necessary, so that they may be used in a classroom setting if needed. ASCII will be done. Ah, yes, and audio tape and large print too, to some degree.

Be aware that this is in its beginning stages, and though I hate to rebuild the wheel, the designs are looking good. Why am I doing this? 1) Because I can, 2) because I want to, 3) because God gave me the ability and the drive to make something like this work come hell or high water! 4) Because it's needed. Not necessarily in that order. *chuckle*

A note on the whole thing: My hours will be volunteer. Any money that comes in will, as always, be used for paper, equipment, and other 'overhead' to provide this service. I have also been talking to a lawyer in order to register my business, Accessible Enterprises, as a non-profit organization and get that all set up. Grants and contributions will help to cover the costs of such a loan library.

What are your thoughts? I can use all the feedback I can get.

Hope you all a wonderful day, and a relaxing weekend! Barbara Werrbach
