Please contact your legislators and spread the word on Illinois HB3518.

This bill would make Illinois legislative information accessible on the Web
for free.

The bill will be introduced when the IL House comes back in to session on
4/21, or shortly thereafter.

Illinois is currently the ONLY State with no legislative info. on the Web
[see http://www.prairienet.org/~scruffy/f.htm for a nice list of State
legislative sites].

Below please find a sample letter with information on this bill.

I am writing to ask for your support for HB3518. This bill would make
information about the General Assembly available in electronic form via
the World Wide Web.

HB 3518 would provide electronic access through the World Wide Web to:

*       the weekly legislative calendar, the schedule of weekly
legislative hearings, a list of matters pending before the General
Assembly, and a list of the committees of the General Assembly and their
members;

*       the text of each bill and resolution introduced and each
engrossed, enrolled, and re-enrolled bill and resolution, and the text of
each adopted amendment and conference committee report;

*       a summary of legislative and gubernatorial action regarding each
bill introduced; and

*       the Journals of the House and Senate, Illinois COmpiled Statutes,
Public Acts, House and Senate Rules, Illinois Register, and Illinois
Administrative Code.

No fee or other charge will be imposed by the Legislative Information
Service as a condition of accessing the information.

Currently, only the Illinois Constitution is available on the Web, and
Illinois is the only state in the nation with no access to legislative
information on the Web. Further, all Illinois constitutional offices
and virtually all agencies in all branches of Illinois government have a
substantive presence on the Web.

The passage of HB3518 would greatly enhance the ability of Illinois
citizens to participate in State government more effectively.
