Good Point!!!

The mean time between failure of a hard
drive left on all the time is likely higher than
electronic components frequently switched.
As was pointed out, however, we have not
seen proof of any of the "seems obvious"
assertions.

Anyone with valuable data on their disks
should absolutely back them up. A while
back an English Professor here, who
probably thought that hard drives never
failed, lost a good deal of work because
he did not back up his drives.
