I suspect taste is as much about habit and environment as it is to do with any fixed point of reference (like
colour).   I 'substitute' the milk component in breakfast cereal with rolled oats and water.  In the U.K. these
are oats suitable for making porridge.  I find raw muesli too rough on my insides.  My children, who are
fortunately not blessed with the same problem that I have, all go "yuk" - but I think it is delicious!  So I have
a handful of oats + corn flakes or whatever and then water.  I usually drink orange juice with it - but
never on it!  Apple juice is nice too.
