Deborah,
Just a quick idea off the top of my head about writing
a book yourself.

How about a story called "No, Thank You," where a
young girl politely declines whenever her new friends
at school offer her snacks such as cookies or cheese
crackers. At a birthday party, the girl unfortunately
has to decline the birthday cake because the host
doesn't know the ingredients of a store-bought cake.
After the party, the birthday girl asks her mother why
the friend didn't eat the cake. The mother could then
explain milk allergy to her daughter.

I thought it would allow the children to see a
potential real life experience, and by having an adult
explain milk allergy in the book would allow you to
discuss it in more detail while reading.

If you know anyone that can draw, perhaps you could
put together small books for each child in the class
from pages printed on color printers and stapled
together.

Good luck,
Suzanne
