I have a Syquest 88mb removable media drive that is now 4 years old. It
works flawlessly. The only problem that I've had is with the cartridge. They
have to be handled with care or they damage easily. Now, keep in mind that
these cartridges are four years old and the problem of "handle with care"
probably is not as pronounced in the newer devices.

As for Zip drives, there has been a lot of discussion as to the reliability
of these drives. In watching this mail group, I've seen a lot of discussion
on how to configure, get running, install and general troubleshooting of
these drives, I've never seen any discussion on the Syquest drives. Also the
Zip drives have a "click" problem that you might want to investigate before
you make your choice.

As a past employee of the now defunct Dynatek Automation systems, I saw the
Syquest drives going into some of the most sophisticated network servers.
Among all of the components going into the systems, the Syquest drives were
the least troublesome in high volume environments.

I haven't recently investigated costs so I can't comment on cost
effectiveness. But the Syquest is definitely the way to go for reliability.
